B-Schools are increasingly roping in a number of younger and lesser-experienced MBA aspirants.Ross Geraghty delves deeper into this trend while mentioning that it is still advisable to gain considerable work experience before enrolling for a business programme.
Unlike for most educational courses, for an admission to an MBA course,a minimum of three years of work experience in a managerial role is crucial. This figure can be higher in some cases.
In rare cases will a institute accept recent graduates. This, too, is done for exceptionally talented students.

The GGN Institute of Management and Technology organised a seminar on ‘Distributed Systems and Data Warehouse’ for the students of the BCA and the MCA here today.
Mr Vikram Singh Walia, Software Engineer, TCS, Mumbai, was the resource person.
Defining the distributed systems, Mr Walia said the components of such a database were located at a number of sites interconnected by means of a communication network.
He explained that each node of distributed system consisted of an independent computer system and its software.
He further added that the distributed systems were the most upcoming technology as many organisations today had geographically dispersed operations.
Highlighting the advantages, he said these systems provided increased availability, reliability and possibility of incremental growth which further made it a very popular stream. The second half of the seminar focused on data warehouse.
A data warehouse was a separate data environment that was not directly integrated with day-to-day applications but encompassed all the data used by a business, said Mr Walia.
He also pointed out that a data warehouse was a large, independent database that included some, but not all, of the data that were stored in databases that served the set of applications required by a business.
The seminar concluded with a question-answer round where the students cleared their doubts and gained tremendously from the guests’ work experience.
Also present on the occasion were Mr Kuldip Singh, Director, and Mr G.S.Dua, coordinator of the institute.
They thanked and honoured the guests for sharing valuable information with the students.
