MBA students with work-experience jump to 89% at IIM-L

One of the most significant trends sweeping the Indian management education domain is the significant importance being attached to prior work-experience of MBA candidates.

Overwhelming percentage of students at IIMs and other top-schools are candidates with some prior work experience.

In the fresh data shared by IIM-L with MBAUniverse.com, a whopping 89% of candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) have some prior work experience. Significantly, just a year ago, only 50% of the batch admitted to PGP 2007-2009 were candidates with work-experience.

Informs IIM-L, “The total number of experienced students in 2007-2009 batch were 122 (50.41%) which has increased to 274 (89.25%) for 2008-2010 batch. This is an increase of around 49% in the total number of experienced students.”

As per the IIM-L batch-profile of PGP 2008-10, of the 307 students, there are only 30 female students. Last year the number stood at 14 female students. There are 24 NRI students as well. As much as 93% of the batch at IIM-L is made of students with engineering degree.

IIM-L has also admitted 5 students who have some physical disability, thereby become a more inclusive institution.

Mumbai-based SPJI to launch its first course at SPJCM in the Knowledge Village in Dubai on 13 Jun 2004

Mumbai-based S P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is all set to launch its first course at the S P Jain Centre of Management (SPJCM) in the Knowledge Village in Dubai on 13 Jun 2004. The Institute wants to bring a multinational context to its student and faculty body and to the manner in which it runs its programmes. The Knowledge Village in Dubai will house leading universities and training centres from all over the world, forming the first `global campus’. SPJCM will offer a one-year full-time postgraduate diploma and management (PGDM) course. The course will offer four specialisations specific to the professional needs of Dubai, including investments banking and wealth management in the financial services sector; and retail management and hospitality management.

The Institute will hold road shows in India, Pakistan and most of the Middle East countries so as to recruit a mix of NRI and local Arab students.

The faculty will be a mix of SPJI lecturers, visiting professionals and full-time staff.

Expat body calls on the Government to the establishment of university NRI

Thiruvananthapuram: WATER-based Pravasi Bandhu Welfare Trust, have prompted the government to begin the process of establishment of the university proposed by Pravasi Overseas Indian Ministry of the State.
In a memorandum submitted VS Achuthanandan Chief Minister, the President said Trust V Shamsudheen Kerala was the ideal place around the university for non-resident Indian / People of Indian Origin, given that the state has the highest number NRIs to stay in the different regions of the world, and that the state has received the largest amounts of transfers.
On March 22, the federal cabinet approved a policy framework for the establishment of an NRI / PIO-University of India in the special economic zone of the university, in accordance with Article 3 of the University Grants Commission Act.
The University offers itself as a centre of excellence. Shamsudheen said, the government should be enough land and other infrastructure of the university, and one of the first proactive stand-by convening a meeting of all parties.
The project would have a quantity of jobs and development of the state, he added.

Biz Kerala school reserves the right places for NRIs

Thomas added that the Institute would be a “Fast-Track, a year (part-time) PGPM, especially for computer professionals.
