Varsity to offer courses in event management, micro-enterprises

The Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, is a Post-Graduate Diploma in Event Management and micro-enterprises in the year of studies.

The University Grants Commission has recognized, the university at the beginning of these two new innovative courses alongside punish the personnel and financial support for a period of five years.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Anandhavalli Mahadevan, said here yesterday, the media, that the event would of course management by the Department of Management Studies, while micro-enterprises, it would be by the Faculty of Science economic. The assertion that graduates of the course would “add-on courses,” she says pursuing post-graduate students in each discipline, exercising one of the new diploma programmes at the same time.

The instruction takes place in Kodaikanal and university research and development centers in Chennai and Madurai. The classes would take place after hours of college or weekend.

The University had a list of “innovative” in UGC course with the staff for a presentation on them. The UGC has sanctioned nearly Rs.50 lakhs for a period of five years for each of the two new curricula, the Vice-Chancellor said.

It would also instruct experts in the field of events management and micro-invited to deliver lectures to students.

To ensure better training and exposure of its students, the University has signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Lucknow-based, the Central Institute of medicines and herbs and the Indian Institute of Physical Astrophysics in Bangalore. The University has also signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation and is currently in train a project on “status of women in Tamil Nadu.”

The project, the Faculty members of different departments took part, was in the final phase and would be contrary to the Corporation, the sharing would be in a book.

The vice-chancellor said the UGC has sanctioned financial assistance, a total of Rs.3.5 crores of the University during the Tenth Plan. The grant would be used for the overall development of the organisation as well as for improving infrastructure.

On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the university, the university had planned to organize an exhibition on the development of the University and women in their premises to Kodaikanal. She said, the University is now on developing strategies to promote women in the conduct of scientific, business and administration.

In this context, the university had planned to organize a roundtable conference of women vice-chancellors before the end of this year, the Vice-Chancellor said.

Amity joins hands with Zambian technical body

Amity has joined hands with the Zambian technical education and vocational regulatory body, the Technical Education Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority, to promote quality educational and management programmes and training in Zambia and India.

Atul Chauhan, President, Amity, and Dr. Patrick Nkanza, Director General, TEVETA, signed the MoU, as per which both will conduct a study to identify the training needs of the Zambian training institutes.

Student and faculty exchanges will be undertaken and training will be offered in areas like Business Management, Finance, Behavioural Science, Biotechnology and Insurance and Actuarial Science.

The TEVETA will assist Amity in setting up institutions in Zambia by providing information on general political and economic environment.

Land delayed, takeover continues

We had signed an MoU with the state government on July 5, 2005 for setting up an integrated steel plant of 5 million tonne capacity and a 1000 MW power plant near Asanboni station in East Singhbhum involving a net capital outlay of Rs 11, 500 crore.

Application has already been filed for 3000 acres in Potka and Ghatshila and for another 2500 acres in Jamshedpur. JSPL is also the first to deposit 80 percent of the cost of land with the state government.

SEZ status for Infocity mulled

The State Government is contemplating to move the Centre for according Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status to Infocity, which houses a number of companies providing information technology and other IT-enabled services.

This was informed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik prior to the signing of an MoU with IT major MindTree Consulting here on Monday. One of the fastest growing among IT companies in the world, MindTree signed an agreement with the State Government to set up a development centre in the Infocity within 18 months from the next financial year.

Information Technology Secretary S N Tripathy told this paper that the Centre had so far approved 140 SEZ proposals, including some IT industries. In the eastern region, West Bengal has received SEZ approval for IT and ITES.

SEZ status to Infocity will boost IT industry in the State because of tax holiday and other special incentives to IT companies setting up development centres there. Software Technology Park of India (STPI) is being given SEZ status, Tripathy said.

The MoU was signed between Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MindTree Subroto Bagchi and IT Secretary Tripathy in the presence of Naveen Patnaik and IT Minister S N Patro.

Promising to have a development centre almost the size of its Bangalore arm here, Bagchi said MindTree would employ at least 1000 software professionals within two years of its operation.

The company has long-term plan of employing about 5000 professionals at the Bhubaneswar centre.

The company has started recruiting from the State and recently a few management graduates from the Xavier Institute of Management were selected through campus recruitment.

Highly appreciating the response of the Government, Bagchi said, “Orissa has shown the kind of response which I have not found from other States.”

Andhra to emulate NORKA

Andhra is all set to Photostat Kerala’s welfare text for the expatriate. Impressed by the activities of Non-Resident Keralites Association (NORKA), a four-member team of the NRI Study Group from Andhra Pradesh is in Kerala to understand and imbibe how NORKA reaches out to the NRKs.

Andhra Minister for Information and Public Relations Mohammed Ali Shabber, also chairman of the NRI Study Group, is all praise for NORKA and the Kerala Government.

“NORKA is the first in setting up a cell for the workers of its state and Andhra Pradesh is next to Kerala in workforce in the Gulf. We want to know more about NORKA and its functions, especially on the recruiting and welfare schemes,” said Shabber.

Besides making a model of NORKA in AP, “We’re also looking into areas where we can join hands,” said Mohammad Hazeebullah (liaison officer), himself an expatriate with 20-year experience as professor in various universities in the US.

The team will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram.

The team comprising Shabber, N V Ramana Reddy, Additional Secretary to the AP Government, B Rasheed, private secretary to Shabber, and Hazeebullah, however, ruled out chances of signing any MoU with the NORKA.

Retail training IIM Indore

The Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM Indore), Distributors Association and India have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a centre for education and Retail Management (Cream) at the Institute training of human resources for the quality of the rapid growth of the sector.

The MoU was signed recently by dyeing IIM-Indore SP Parashar director and general manager of Gibson Veda Manitoba club.

The Centre is a source of research, training, consulting and Executive Education programs for retailers in India.

Speaking of the occasion, Mr paradise Shar said a revolution took place in the retail sector, and it will only be effective if it is formed by a manpower quality.

Mr. Veda Mani said it was a necessity for the 2.5 million workers in the retail sector.

He expressed concern that small retailers would be negated by increased competition is not based on actual data of discretion because it enough space for all types of formats from retail to co-exist India.

The Institute is considering the launch of the programme in the long term management of the duration of detail in September.
