Free postgraduate seminar by Symbiosis

Symbiosis, the Pune-based educational group is organising a `Free postgraduate seminar’ at Loyola College, Chennai, on October 23, Sunday.

Professors, academicians, counselors, regular experienced faculty from Symbiosis institutions will help students choose from a pool of multi-stream career options such as Agribusiness, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, International Business, Information Technology, Management, Mass Communication, Operations Management & Telecom Management.

In a recent conference Reggae Studies Unit on the Mona campus of Jeremy Harding was the guest speaker, two weeks ago, head of reggae Studies Unit Professor Carolyn Cooper, announced that university research in the implementation of a sector in culture and entertainment establishments management company in the near future.

In an interview with The Sunday Gleaner Professor Cooper said recently that the implementation of programmeas soon the next academic year, if everything pans.

NSHM joins hands with UK varsity

KOLKATA: NSHM Knowledge Campus has tied up with UK’s Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), providing an option for its students to pursue higher academic pursuits at SHU in media, management and hospitality.

Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata to announce the partnership, Cecil Antony, chief mentor, NSHM Knowledge Campus, said: “The NSHM-SHU partnership will be operational from 2008. This is a part of our endeavour to tie up with global education hubs to create opportunities for Indian students.”

NSHM will offer a masters degree (MA) in film and media production and the students can study two semesters at the NSHM Institute of Media and Communication(NIMC), Kolkata. The remaining two semesters can be completed at SHU with an option to do their project at SHU or NIMC. The degree is awarded by SHU. The cost of the course is pegged at approximately Rs 12 lakh.

The institutes are also working on a programme for designing a post-graduate programme in sports and wellness management. It will be conducted wholly by NSHM with an option to complete the Masters at SHU.

The UK university has several partnerships in place with academic institutes in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Europe among others. It is also exploring other collaborations in India with IILM (Institute of Integrated Learning in Management), Delhi; Christ College, Bangalore and Delhi University. “Our aim is to diversify our international activities,” said SHU pro vice-chancellor, academic development, Philip Garrahan.
