ICFAI varsity seeking base in The Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 15 - THE Hyderabad-based Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) is looking to set up full-fledged university-level operations in Kerala.

The ‘multi-State university’ model that ICFAI is promoting has seen ‘ICFAI University’ centres being established in States such as Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal, according to the Development Officer, ICFAI University, Thiruvananthapuram, Mr Renjith G. These Stats have passed enabling laws for setting up such universities.

The ICFAI was established in 1984 with the objective of imparting world-class training in finance and management to students, working executives and professionals in India. It launched the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Programme in 1985.

The ICFAI Business School was established in 1995 to offer the MBA programme with various specialisations. Today, ICFAI offers a range of programmes in finance, banking, insurance, accounting, law, management and science and technology on full-time campus format and distance learning format.

The ICFAI has a placement cell that has achieved 100 per cent placements for all the 5,000-odd persons who have successfully completed various courses in the institute. “No single person who has passed from the ICFAI is without a suitable job,” Mr Renjith said.

Leading employers in the West Asia have set great store by the ICFAI’s Master of Science (Accounting) (MS-Accounting) programme leading to the CPA designation.

The institute has drawn up a road map that envisages setting up of ICFAI contact centres in all districts in the shortest possible time.

Of the various courses on offer, the MS-Finance leads to the grant of the CFA Charter and addresses the broader financial and managerial issues in the areas of corporate finance, international finance, investment management and financial services.

The MS-Banking focuses on domain knowledge and skills in banking, managerial excellence and IT and E-banking.

The MS-Insurance programme leading to C-RIM designation also focuses on domain knowledge and skills in risk and insurance, management practices and operational excellence, IT and e-business. The MS-Accounting is specifically designed to meet the demands of modern accounting professionals.

The programme integrates into its body of knowledge, the US GAAP, code of ethics and soft skills, among others.

Global Strategic Management (GSM) is designed to provide a portfolio of skills and ability to apply, adapt and integrate strategic skills in global management settings.

Knowledge industries will drive future of India: Sudhir Jalan

Chennai: India’s image as a nation of “brainy people” coupled with its demographic advantage of having a chunk of the population in the working age group will result in services sector, especially knowledge industries, fuelling the country’s growth in the years ahead.

But this is not the time to rest as there is a need for change in every sphere of life, a mindset change from one to carrying forward the economic reforms process, said Sudhir Jalan, All India Management Association (AIMA) president.

Addressing the golden jubilee annual general meeting of the Madras Management Association (MMA) here on Wednesday, said he should be the focus on harnessing the potential and leveraging the strengths instead of seeking protectionist measures.

Learn from history

India, according to Mr. Jalan, should learn from the history that it shows that China overtook as one of the most prosperous countries in the past. Scoring Under the need to transform the energy of the country’s youth, he said new industries and activities such as “hyper-agriculture, programmable money and privacy invasion sensors” would shape the future.

He was addressing the tenth in the series of lectures on `India’s time has come” that was organised as part of the golden jubilee of the MMA. “MMA is inarguably the finest of the local management associations in the country,” said Mr. Jalan .

Presents Awards

Earlier, he presented the MMA’s managerial excellence awards for 2006. While Pricol Limited Coimbatore bagged award of the manufacturing sector in the category, Loyola Bank and Indian Institute of Business Administration got it in the services and educational institution categories respectively.

Noting that the MMA was the force behind the establishment of the association management at national level, Jalan said Mr. as part of its golden jubilee AIMA that pursuing the many initiatives, including those to strengthen the bond with the management of local associations and build brand for itself.

Convention Centre

Listing programmes conducted as part of the golden jubilee, said MMA president DP Padmanabhan considerable groundwork had been completed on the proposals, announced as part of the celebrations, to establish an international convention centre and a world class management school in Chennai. Both the projects were likely to be located in one place and expected to be completed in three years.

Several past presidents of the MMA were honoured at the AGM, in which the chairman of golden jubilee celebrations committee K. Srinivasan Swamy commended the work done by Mr. Padmanabhan and his team. Director-General of AIMA G.K. Nischol released a set of compact discs containing the speeches organised as part of the golden jubilee.
