New bridges
Kharar: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will inaugurate the newly constructed bridges on Budhki and Siswan rivers near Boormajra village on Guru Gobind Marg on December 12, according to the district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Pritam Singh.
BKU protest
Jind: Thousands of workers belonging to the Bhartiya Kisan Union of Jind took out a procession in the town and peacefully demonstrated in the compound of the district court here on Monday. Led by district Presidents, Mahender Singh, the demonstrations demanded the unconditional release of State President Ghasi Ram, and asked the government, his whereabouts. Regarding the other demands, the union rejected the support price of wheat announced recently by the union government, demanded a compenstion worth Rs 15,000 per acre for the flood affected farmers, change of burnt transformers, withdrawl of cases of non payment of power bills and adequate supply of DAP.
PCCTU agitation
Patiala: The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) has decided to launch an agitation in support of its demands and would organise a dharna at Matka Chowk in Chandigarh during the forthcoming session of the state Assembly. Stating this here today, district press secretary of the PCCTU Harchran Singh said that a decision to this effect was taken at a state executive meeting, which was held at the PMN College in Rajpura, yesterday under the chairmanship of PCCTU president Prof S S Hundal.
