KOCHI: The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) certificates an honorary doctorate (D.Sc.), chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) G. Dr. Narayanamurthy said that institutions of higher education must remain relevant in a rapidly changing world, but the State in the field of regulation of higher education system, the limited capacity of institutions of higher education and universities, adapt and change. For this reason, the country has not failed to build world-class institutions, he added. World-class institutions were not built by the government mandate and control, but on academic freedom, innovation and pursuit of excellence unite. “We must strengthen our institutions and freedom to take risks and to promote bold, new initiatives for growth. Higher education in India must be able to operate as an industry in a free market, the environment.”
Both Nair and Dr. Dr. Narayanamurthy welcomed CUSAT at promoting research in different disciplines and in promoting collaborative research.

Thiruvananthapuram: A 10-member team deputed by the Center is expected to arrive here on Tuesday to get a firsthand account of the extent of crop loss suffered during the recent drought.
An official spokesman said that Mr Satish Chander, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, would head the team. The team is scheduled to hold Diskussionen with the State Minister for Agriculture, Frau KR Gowri, and a team of Government officials led by the Chief Secretary, Mr. Babu Jacob, immediately on arrival.
The multi-disciplinary team will seek to know the extent of the loss to cash crops and will go on a visit to Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Wayanad Bezirke und Palakkad.
