After nearly two years of slump, banks and finance companies are back on the stage of recruitment.
For almost 30 per cent of vacancies this year in the first Business Schools, as Indian Institute of Bangalore (IIM-B) were banks and financial institutions, which was also similar in small schools like B-Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. Speaking to-Business Line, Prof Ganesh Prabhu, chairman (placements), IIM-B, said: “Finance and has a come-back this year with 16 Icici Bank made offers and American Express Bank, eight bids.
The other important placement agency in this sector were Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC. Indeed, companies like General Motors have also recruited students to fund. ”
Likewise, companies and FMCG and automobile companies such as Nestle, Hero Honda have also recruited students finances on campus positions MDI Gurgaon.
Prof. Prabhu also mentioned the existence of a marginal increase of job opportunities in the sector Consulting. “While McKinsey has offered jobs to three students, the other major agents investment in this segment was Boston Consulting Group and Tata Strategic Management Group,” he said.
Prabhu Although the professor was not too enthusiastic reaction of FMCG and automotive companies in this year, Mr. Amit Mookerjee, placement Co-ordinator, MDI Gurgaon, said that the Institute was a come-back from these sectors.
“Nearly 40 percent of the parameters of this year have been adopted by the FMCG, durable consumer goods and automotive sector. The main mediators of staff in this sector have been companies such as Nestle, Samsung, Whirlpool, Maruti, Hero Honda and Eicher. ”
Mr. Mookerjee said that most of these companies never came on campus during the year, because they were unwell. He also pointed out that companies like Old Economy DCM Shriram, and the Aditya Birla group made a comeback in the recruitment scene.
“It shows that the Indian economy is back to normal,” he said.
Talking about the nature of professional images of this year, “said Mookerjee regardless of the distribution, marketing and finance companies have also recruited students from many other functions, such as systems and Supply Chain Management.
While the BPO and retailing is not to recruit in a big way this year, companies began to resume recruitment.
While Infosys, 13 bids and 11 offers material on the IIM-B-campus, companies like TCS, HCL-Net and Wipro recruited a large number of students on the campus of MDI.

FIRST principle of philosophy, according to Rene Descartes, was: ‘I think therefore I am.’ So sure of it he was that “all the most extravagant suppositions of the sceptics were unable to shake it”. For Murli Manohar Joshi, however, the line has to be adapted a bit: “I think therefore IIM.”
It used to be said when philanderers ruled the earth, commoners rushed to hide their pretty wives when the royalty passed by the street, you know why. Now, they are doing something similar with institutions that enjoyed autonomy thus far, only these bodies are too big to hide behind walls. Frantic efforts are on, such as industry captains meeting with top powers, suits filed to nullify interference, and articles filling up newspapers and magazines.
Among the myriad reports, there is one that is titled, “Keep off: Kurien,” talking about the views of the father of the white revolution in India, Dr Verghese Kurien. His 1991 report to the Centre on IIMs had suggested independence from the government, establishment of a corpus fund, block contributions from the government and so on.
In the wake of the current controversy, his recent views have predictably been pro-autonomy and anti-meddling.
Kurien is no mincer of words and if you want to know his views on IIM, a good place to look at is a book by S.N.Chary, an IIM-B prof. Titled, “Business Gurus Speak”, and published by Macmillan in 2002, it features interviews with ‘extraordinary personalities’ such as Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Azim Premji, N.R.Narayana Murthy, Venu Srinivasan, Deepak Parekh, and Mukesh Ambani, apart from Kurien. “You at IIM are using public funds to provide managers for Hindustan Lever and Nestle,” he says, and Joshi may please note.
Kurien was on the IIM’s Board. “So, I spoke in the Board,” narrates the nation’s milkman. “The raison d’etre of this Institute is to provide managers for the under-managed sector, which means NGOs, co-operatives and the public sector, but not multinationals.” Not a popular thought, you muse. Which is what the Board too felt. “One person sitting next to me with a cigar in his mouth said, ‘You mean to say that the graduates of our Institute are to be taught how to milk cows?’ Everybody giggled at that and he put his cigar back.” Is that the end of the story? No. “So, I said, ‘No. You teach them how to suck cigars. I don’t want to work on this Board.’”
Then, Kurien went on to build IRMA, the Institute of Rural Management Anand, with inputs from his cousin Ravi Mathai, who was the Director in IIM, Ahmedabad. Avoid mistakes that happened in IIM, Mathai instructed: “So cousin, when you build IRMA, please build a bigger house for the director than for the professors so that they will know that there is a boss.” Next, don’t give too much powers to professors; this is not Harvard. For this, Kurien recounts Mathai told him: “I told a professor whom I had appointed, ‘You are free to go ahead and fill all the lower posts in your department.’ That person went to his village, brought all his relations and appointed them. That was a terrible mistake which I made.”
And, there’s one more: “The third point cousin, is that you should cut down on the number of people you employ. We have so many people, and therefore, labour union problems, courts, and so on. I am tired of it all. You are a dictator, so run it as a dictator. If anyone steps out of line, sack him. I can’t do that; I am not made that way.’”
Now, this is Kurienspeak: “I said, ‘Ravi Mathai, neither you nor any of your professors have ever managed anything.” Keep off Kurienspeak on IIMs, shall we say?

Thus far, no further. This player says its software can help companies, even schools, regulate use of the Internet. It’s responsible use of resources. Alas, no freaking out.
PATHWAYS World School in Gurgaon wanted to insulate its students from pornography and ensure that they did not become nerds despite carrying their personal laptops to class.
Tata Interactive Solutions was worried that its employees should not unwittingly compromise the company’s security through file-sharing on Kaaza or use up precious bandwidth to download movies in the night.
The two are among over 250 organisations who found the answer to their concerns in ‘Cyberoam’, an Internet management solution from Ahmedabad-based software developer, Elitecore Technologies Ltd.
“As per our company policy, we do not put any restrictions on Internet usage at user level. But we need to optimally utilise our bandwidth resource. I have heard of cases in other companies where employees set up a download of a hefty file, like a movie, when they finished their day and left their systems on through the night. Cyberoam has helped us prevent such activites,” says Usman Kathi, Systems Administrator at Tata Interactive Systems.
Kathi says Cyberoam allows him to manage bandwidth more effectively. The software not only helps him to aggregate bandwidth from different gateways but also to allocate it among different users.
That feature comes in handy for the company in order to optimally utilise the scarce resource and allocate it real-time among different users.
The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, too had this problem of students choking the Internet pipe by setting up a download of a big file before coming to class.
The institute now uses Cyberoam to cut down the bandwidth available to students during class hours and directing the same to the faculty.
In the evenings, the students’ quota of the bandwidth is stepped up, says Venu Gopal, Assistant Systems Officer at IIM-B.
While IIM Bangalore does not restrict its students from visiting any Web sites, Pathways World School in Gurgaon is concerned that its students should not access unwanted sites dishing out pornography or any material unsuitable for children.
