IIM-C faculty to contest validity of board meeting.

THE faculty council of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) on Monday decided to move the Calcutta High Court challenging the validity of the 164th meeting of the board of governors, which took place on March 26, 2004.

Prof Asish Bhattacharyya, Dean (Planning & Administration) and spokesperson of the faculty council, told newspersons that the validity of the said meeting was being called into question since four members had been replaced or substituted just before the crucial meeting to decide on the fee cut issue.

The council has also recommended that the Director of the institute provisionally maintain the fee structure for the forthcoming session, which begins in May.

Prof Bhattacharyya said that the council has suggested that since the board of governors has not been able to take a decision on fee reduction as directed by the Union HRD Ministry, the continuation of the same fee structure was advisable in view of smooth functioning of the institute as per the curriculum.

In the just concluded two-year session, IIM-C had charged a total of around Rs 2.5 lakh. The payments were obtained in various stages. The initial payment was around Rs 48,000.

“We have also suggested to the Director, who was present at the council meeting today, that fee received in excess of what might be finally decided by the board of governors or the Supreme Court be refunded with interest to the students.”

Prof Bhattacharyya also said that it has been the practice at IIM-C that before every session the faculty would recommend the fee structure and the board would take it up for approval. The council has also suggested that the Director, in the absence of clarity, might keep aside the Central Government’s proposed grant of Rs 4 crore for 2003-04 on account of non-Plan expenditure.

“The fund has not come in yet. But if it comes, the council advises that it should not be used until the matter is resolved by the Supreme Court or through a process of dialogue.” Meanwhile, the IIM-C faculty council has requested the Ministry that it be included in the process of dialogue on the fee revision issue.

The council has decided to form a three-member committee consisting of two faculty members and one alumnus for the proposed dialogue.

The principle IMDR

A quiet evening, an auditorium heat warms a silk saris brilliant, funny and lively camaraderie Celebration Sing-a silver jubilee. This was the scene last Sunday in the hyped but rarely respected Institute for Management and Development Research (IMDR).

IMDR in 1974 by the Deccan Education Society (DES) with generous contributions by Dr Joshi and Padmashri RT Sumatilal Shah. At that time, he was a member of the University of Pune (UOP). During 1977, the Institute has taken precedence over the compatibility of unconventional itself an autonomous institution. Since IMDR has come a long way together, carrying out at least eight management courses in various disciplines, including new graduates on the market in international trade and award its own degrees.

Your autonomy, they are pursuing a “ flexible, complete and the results of the curriculum.” It enables its students to more creative, productive, competent and himself. Your curriculum allows students to study at their own pace, unlike other Management Institute. “ IM (I) directly responsible,”is like a player Gopal Iyengar IMDR described in the Institute and its policy.

A feature of their policies, their commitment to enlightened management practice in the Indian context is trying to establish a relationship with industry in India, in theory and in practice. Your unique approach Indian management training, where students not only on the knowledge and analytical skills, but also the desire to develop itself and pass judgement on people and situations.

IMDR has been described as “ extremely innovative and very ursprüngliche”Institut. What makes this Institute and other institutions to manage the “Oxford of the East or in India? Your desire to learn from everyone, but nobody imitate? Your fee structure? R 12000 per year for an MBA, just peanuts at the moment. Your good teacher-student camaraderie? “ We are on a first name basis with most of the Faculty,”as Siddharth, second year PGDM students. “ The only reason we are not as with the rest is purely out of respect for their age and experience. Not that the spirit,”added to his classmates and Subbu Chitra. On the lighter side, which tapri the IMDR also has a good reputation and is a place much frequented. A dish of pav omlette and much more is a coveted thing.

Symbiosis between students feel deceived.

What do you do if your institute tax hikes almost every year, and are not all the promises made at the date of approval?

While most prefer to shut up, there are only a few others, would lead to write a newspaper, they think that “last resort” to deal with their complaints.

Law Students in the symbiosis of the university took a similar initiative, education for extortion committed to the Institute. ”

Not only the increase in the inflow of money every year since the entry into force of the law reaches college, state university in 2002-03, charges in a letter to TOI an anonymous students are multiple … skyrocketing of the library and computer equipment costs non-members Faculty table authorization.

Studies on charges that many students who have obtained the inclusion in the college based on their university status in 2002, were caught unawares by the nature and the manner in which the fee structure is emigrated each year.

“Our school teachers as Ram Jethmalani, Kiran Bedi, TN Seshan, and Justice YV Chandrachud, and yet there is no justice”, said a few students.

For example, the costs of BA LLB (Five-year Bachelor of Law degree) for the first batch of students under the university status, RS 8000 (2002-03) to 16000 RS (2003/04) RS 19000 (2004-05).

For the second part of students within the university status, opted for the new BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) LLB, of course, in 2003-04, the college, walking the costs of RS 36500 (2003-04 ) 41500 RS And costs BA LLB 31500 RS RS 40000

“We do not have been said at the time of admission that fees would be increased each year. Furthermore, we are not always the benefits promised to us,” disadvantaged students, requesting anonymity told TNN .

Chairman and Managing Director of the Society of Symbiosis, SB Muzumdar, however, said the fee for this high-level institution is also granted to all other institutions of higher education law in the country.

“We do not receive subsidies by the government or other funding,” he explained, including the fees of all agencies made available to students. “Last year itself, we have over 15 High Court and an equal number of judges of the Supreme Court of course the students of Jura.”

“The reason for the increase in tax after attaining university status was the first line to determine how best students,” said Muzumdar and added that the fee structure is approved by management before to be implemented.

Declares that students who wanted a good summer training and investment option by the university as a cell, the payment of a sum of Rs 5000, he said the money to care l Student to appear for an interview and group discussion.

“The students, but their own investments, but require a letter of recommendation are requested to pay a sum of Rs 200 per lean” Muzumdar added.

“But why should we pay even Rs 200 for a letter of recommendation, if we spend too much money?” Students invited.

But what about members of the Faculty, who claims not familiar with English?
