A national conference on “Indian Infrastructure - Challenges and Opportunities”, organized by SDM Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research Management SDM in the conference room, on 16 February informed SDM College of Business Management Principal Dr. K. Devaraj

Indian Institute of Modern Management (IIMM), Pune, which is the flagship of Sri Balaji Society, has been existence for about five years. Other educational institutions run by the society include the Indian Centre for Telecom and Management, Indian Centre for International Business, Balaji Law College and Balaji College of Arts and Commerce. At the IIMM, besides many co-curricular activities, the students go through at least 100 workshops in order to gain knowledge in the concerned discipline and to shape their personality. The college is practically run by the students with a student council, which operates as a cabinet with an annual budget of around Rs50 lakh. Majority of the students admitted into the institute are from outside Pune, who are housed in about 70 rental flats. The students are selected from 14 centres by an expert committee by following the format of interviews and group discussions and psychological testing. Girls account for 40 percent of the students.
The faculty at the institute consist of senior managers from Pune and outside, who regularly visit the institute. The annual fee per student amounts to Rs1 lakh. The institute is very strict about attendance by the students and ensures that parents are given monthly reports. So far, the Institute has attracted around 180 companies to its campus for recruitment.

The Goa Institute of Management (GIM), the implementation of a two-day symposium to study the impact of patents on the maturity of the pharmaceutical industry, 20 and August 21, 2005, in Goa.
The symposium aims to examine the changing economic conditions for the Indian industry by the introduction of the product patent regime from 1 January 2005.
The theme and the structure of discussions at the seminar are as follows:
Economic, social and legal implications of the introduction of TRIPs (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights).
Effects of the implementation of TRIPs on models of majors in India.
Identification of possible business opportunities and competition of the benefits arising from the changing business scenario.
Evolving a policy support, which would be a guide for policy makers and regulators in the indication of guidelines for the industry.

Delivering the opening speech at the conference AHEAD 2002, President ASSOCHAM KK Nohria noticed,”the prosperity of the industry with regard to the prosperity of the nation, the prosperity of the nation is linked to productivity the nation and the productivity of the nation is linked to the productivity of higher education. Effective, well-being of the sector depends on the quality of education. However, the industry has expressed an interest in education to ensure the well-being of the nation and education. This fair is the promotion of private sector participation in education.”
ASSOCHAM President of the Expert Committee on Education, Vinay Rai said:”Education is innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. We need reforms in the fields of education, long before that we have reached reforms in the financial sector and the industrial sector.”
Discussions on the current scenario of higher education in the area of AICTE chairman, Natarajan R noticed,”There is an acute shortage of competent authority in the area of the Faculty of Higher Education, is the lack of interest among graduates of teaching as a profession to take. Very few students are in favour of research and development, as they prefer to work in the service sector.”
He stressed that private sector initiatives to complement the Government’s efforts in education.
The conference took subsequent meetings of the Higher Education - Need for Human Values and Ethics “, and on” opportunities for pupils and parents on stress “in the next two weeks.
