The university puts India, schools for training seafarers.

Authors line: National Maritime at improving the quality of graduates

All training institutions seafarers from India will soon again under the roof of the National Maritime University, which earlier this year by the conversion of Chennai-based National Institute of Management at the University of Port-status .

“China has not only one but several universities for maritime training,” says Captain H Subramaniam, the head of the Eurasia-Centre for Advanced Learning, is a former head of state Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies, a research and 38 years of experience in maritime training.

“The Philippines, many schools give lessons in their notations, Singapore has a Marine Training Institute modern. But until recently, India has contributed to the effort maritime training, the government has been Institute, Mumbai and Calcutta.

To the great merit of the India Ocean, it has avoided some of the flagrant errors, and that their counterparts in general education. Admission is for the administration and the courts are not so far from any criterion.

The fee structure is also, by the Institute, and must, therefore, left, as it should be on the market. Private maritime training institutes are free to admit they want, and to pay a fee, depending on the service they offer.

Trade associations, such as the Society of Master Mariners, the Institution of Marine Engineers and the Institution of Naval Architects give freely of their time and expertise to review, young university graduates and ensure what they do possess the capacity they have.

In fact, the maritime training Indian decided to shoot his socks after criticism that the trailing and back in the days of the comparison with major competitors on the world market.

“The competence of seafarers, while board depends on its knowledge, skills and attitudes that all of the different factors, such as ethnic origin, academic qualifications basic communication skills, the nature of the training on land and on board, on board for the Environment of the sea experiences, the attitudes of employers, the quantum experiments, and so on, “says Hong Kong-based Rajaish Bajpaee, responsible for the Eurasia Group.

“The certification of skills, that the government provides minimum requirements for the job. But in a world of competition, operators of vessels of over jurisdiction. Modernity sea with a ship may be multi-million-dollar’schwimmende factory ‘, Captain, as Chief Executive, and the team, as the Governing Council. ”

Mr. Bajpaee asserts that the security of effective and efficient means of managing this factory ship requires more than mere naval capabilities, compliance with minimum standards.

“We need more knowledge, greater capacity, good attitude, personnel management, the internal and external (eg several inspectors, pilots, charterer, etc) - essentially driving and good management skills, “he says.

This was an important reason for the establishment of the Eurasian Centre for Advanced Learning, in October 2004. “The Centre is trying, above factors,” more than the confirmation of competence “, through the filling of gaps between the skills acquired during the seamen of the legal qualifications for the CDC and the ability to practice of navigation, conduct and management Necessary for the discharge of the whole spectrum of duties on board a ship of the high seas, “says Bajpaee.

In 2005, he ran 124 ECAL value-added for 17 types of courses, in which 738 sailors.

The best known of these courses was the Great Ship Handling-term, (a) in the large container ships and large car operators because of their similarities - High-Power engines, the main areas of bow and wind, and (b), and a large mass of VLCC Carrier - Tiefgänger use, and large format and Low-Power engines.

“All officers reason for the command - in-chief, and each championship, which will be a bigger ship, is subject to this course,” says Capt. Subramaniam. “The courses are protected by a master additional marine and experience with the command of two years’ experience in the piloting of ships, including two from the bank.”

In addition to courses, which focus on the value added maritime capabilities, the most prestigious course of the Leadership Development Programme, under the supervision of an internationally renowned expert on human behavior in the business world. Bundles of water and land, participation in this course.

The equipment from ECAL includes a ship maneuvering simulator mission, a mission complete ER-simulator and a PC based on Liquid Handling Simulator (for the production of oil products, chemicals and gases).

Plans for the future, particularly in the acquisition of one hand very advanced liquefied natural gas simulator with spherical membrane and reservoirs type Transas Marine.

During ECAL plans for a simulation of LNG, this module has already spent, as the pride and joy of Anglo Eastern Maritime Training Centre, in the suburbs of Mumbai.

“The simulator, the first of its kind in the world, was published in the past year, in collaboration with an established enterprise Delhi,” says Captain Kersi N Deboo, the training center’s largest.

“The company needs, the need for technical know-how from us. Technical data, information, drawings, and so were all of us on the basis of our knowledge about equipment, which is in fact on a ship LNG.

“We needed LNG in the module, as it is a market going forward, and that citizens need training for use with gas. Simulator shows how the cargo of LNG at two levels — the operational level and the managers’ level of management. It appears, in fact, as a container is empty, as nitrogen are removed, and so on. ”

LNG is a simulator for two new entries in the 12 years AEMTC. The other was 4000 square feet of engine shop around a projector and a crane Mock Engine room.

“Almost every device in an engine room, it is, for example, scrubbers, oily water separators, pumps, generators, turbo chargers, the engine cylinder units - and all models,” says Captain Deboo, with pride.

“We will continue our students in the formation of good methods for maintenance and engine overhaul, and safe operation. All devices in the workshop is under way on modern ships, we have no museum pieces. “
