passengers’ forum calls on cr to take action against erring staff mumbai: the mumbai suburban railway passengers’ association has served notices to the central railway mazdoor union and the national railway mazdoor union for the flash strike by motormen on sunday morning, “which caused untold hardships to suburban commuters”.
the association, in a press statement, said that it was improper on the part of the motormen to strike work just because disciplinary action was taken against one of their colleagues who had jumped a red signal. “unless rules and regulations are strictly observed, satisfactory service cannot be expected from any organisation,” said chairperson of the association, dipak gandhi. such lapses could result in a major accident, putting thousands of lives in danger, he added.
the association has asked central railway authorities to take strict action against the erring staff and union leaders. otherwise, the association has said that it would be compelled to take legal action on its own. under section 173 of the railway act, abandoning trains unattended is an offence liable for imprisonment up to two years and a fine of up to rs 10,000.
