Manipal is emerging as a major information technology (IT) centre in Karnataka.

The region offers excellent opportunities to IT investors through low cost infrastructure, real estate and manpower. Software exports from Manipal increased from Rs4.40 crore in 2000-2001 to Rs12.45 crore in 2002-2003.

Manipal has excellent connectivity with rest of India through roads, railways, airport and sea port. The Software Technology Park of India (STPI) has set up a software technology park (STP) in Manipal. Major customers of the STP are Infosys Technologies, Zeta Infotech, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), the TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) and the Manipal Media Network (MMN). The services offered by the STP include dedicated Internet services, Web hosting, and mail relaying service, domain name service, and ISDN and VPN services.
