The special meeting of the Syndicate Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has ratified the detailed project report (DPR), on the model the Department of Human Resources Department (MHRD) for the adaptation of IIT Varsity.
The draft consolidated report, décanat of the Conference Committee, in consultation with the 27 departments of the Cusat has Rs 450 crore for hosting one of various development projects at the university.
The report has a massive restructuring of the engineer by training, through university. Under the restructuring of various departments, Thrikkakara Model Engineering College and Engineering College Pullinkunnu be grouped for services parallel to the university.

The School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), is organizing a national seminar on the management of logistics, 28 and March 29. The performance of an effective logistics system depends on the cooperation and integration of many elements operating and service providers. Logistics is a function of management, networking can move materials from one department to another or from one company to another in a supply chain. It consists of a network storage, handling and transportation systems.
A decade back, we could have not expected to see oranges from California, Australia and fruit in our supermarket shelves. International trade is the proportion of logistics is approximately 28 per cent of the costs of the final product. In large countries like India, the national logistics costs for agricultural products is 20 to 25 per cent of final cost.
Logistics has long been smaller and less organized set-ups. Hence, its effectiveness was bad. There is a need to improve the logistics system with regard to the performance on speed, reaction time, flexibility, cost and reliability. Much attention lately on improving the logistics system performance by improving infrastructure, Carrier and cooperation between different institutions, different logistics service providers.
The School of Management Studies, Cusat, has been in teaching and research in the field of logistics management in a decade. Courses on logistics to gain popularity in Management Schools in Kerala.

Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has proposed the creation of seven new centres in future areas of study, rural development and appropriate technology to public order and good governance during 2004-2005.
Cusat’s annual budget has allocated 5 Case crores for new projects.
These centres would be encouraged to internal resources companies, projects and consultancy work for external agencies.
The proposal to school for rural development and appropriate technology, the management center for Tourism Studies, School of International Human Resources Development Centre of Marine Biotechnology, Centre for Space Science Studies, Centre for Human Rights Studies and Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance.
The school of rural development and appropriate technology
The school has a vision: it must contribute to good health and even to leave the rural population, which appreciates the benefits of modern science and technology.
The school has 11 key sectors as part of the vision plan. These include the preservation of natural resources and their use, indigenous technology and intellectual property and technology.
The school is the training of rural people to increase their capacity as custodians of natural resources and traditional technology. Measures taken to the innovative technology to meet the specific needs of the rural population.
It provides for the organization of courses and workshops in the short term, multi-disciplinary units in the areas of methodology for collecting health, sanitation and water supply, food and maintenance of control quality and waste management.
Tourist Office of Management Studies
The center offers a post-graduate study programme in tourism. Cusat counsel studies on the theme “Tourism under the new initiative. A curriculum module and detailed content would be ready after receipt of entries expert on the tourism sector.

The School of Management Studies (SMS) at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), founded in 1964, has pioneered the concept of training in management of the State.
The school, according to their founder, director and noted academician, MV Pylee, was at a time when almost nobody had heard in Kerala, on management training.
During these years, the school has emerged as a leading management institutions of the state, with a full-time MBA students for the program in the country. The school is in its 40 year existence, this month.
The school was designed back on the road in 1961, when visionaries such as Dr. Pylee recognized the need to set up a training centre for mediation excellent training in management of the State. “It was a Herculean task for the construction of a new institution. But I have received full support and collaboration of some of the key men in the industry, “said Dr. Pylee.
The school has started to work on that part of the premises of the University of Kerala, in its early years. It was then postponed until today the campus of the University of Cochin was founded in 1971.
Course
The school has two years full-time post-Graduate programme “Master of Business Administration (MBA). The model is of course a mixture of management issues, finance, marketing, operations, personnel and systems. The program was designed to enable students to develop a thorough understanding of basic concepts and management techniques.
The duration of full-time MBA program is four semesters. In addition to management issues, the school offers different choices of documents required in areas such as Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations Management and general management.
The school also offers a three-year part-time MBA courses. The three-year program was designed for leaders of government and business associations.
The objective of course is to improve the management skills of these professionals. The duration of the course is six semesters.
Other courses offered by the school full-time two-year programme “Master of International Business (MIB). The duration of the course is four semesters. The course stresses the principles of export procedures and techniques. Topics such as international marketing, international finance, logistics and international systems are also covered. The school also offers an M. Phil. PhD program in business and management issues.
Students are admitted as courses on the basis of their performances in common Admission Test (CAT), under the direction of Cusat. The final list of candidates is published on the basis of scores of brands in the group discussions and interview.

KOCHI: A Syndicate meeting of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) held here today approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for getting upgraded into the level of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
The DPR has included developmental projects worth Rs.450 crores. An estimate Rs.175 crores has been earmarked for re-structuring engineering education on the campus. The School of Marine Sciences will be converted into School of Marine Sciences and Technology. A budget of Rs.50 crores has been earmarked for the development of School of Marine Sciences.
The science departments will receive Rs.45 crores, while the environmental sciences department will get Rs.7.5 crores.
The School of Legal Studies and School of Management Studies will be developed as part of the new initiative. The Department of Hindi will be re-named as Department of Indian Languages. The Department will offer academic programmes in South Indian languages. The Department of Cultural Heritage will be re-named as Department of English and Foreign Languages.
The DPR will be submitted to the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister for Education E.T. Mohammed Basheer. The Syndicate urged the Government to extend all possible help in upgrading the university into the level of an IIT

KOCHI: Minister of Water Resources Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan called for transforming the law to severe penalties to those who pollute drinking water sources.
The opening one-day seminar on “reforms in the laws of conservation of water” organized by the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) on Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the availability of potable water can be ensured only through the implementation of stricter laws and creating awareness in public opinion.
He said that the state needs a popular movement to collect rainwater. Mr. Radhakrishnan added that many systems of drinking water have been removed because ad Tangles legal. He pointed out that such situations must be avoided at all costs.
Cusat Vice-Chancellor P.K. Abdul Aziz, the presidency of the function, said experts professional service agencies would be able to use the natural resources of local autonomy, including panchayats. KOCHI: The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) certificates an honorary doctorate (D.Sc.), chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) G. For this reason, the country has not failed to build world-class institutions, he added. World-class institutions were not built by the government mandate and control, but on academic freedom, innovation and pursuit of excellence unite. “We must strengthen our institutions and freedom to take risks and to promote bold, new initiatives for growth. Higher education in India must be able to operate as an industry in a free market, the environment.”
Both Nair and Dr. Dr. Narayanamurthy welcomed CUSAT at promoting research in different disciplines and in promoting collaborative research.
