Y C Deveshwar is the new head of CII
YC Deveshwar, chairman, ITC Ltd, the reins of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), on Wednesday, the chairman, succeeds Sunil Kant Munjal.
Deveshwar term as president of the CII, at a time when Indian industry is gaining global recognition.
An engineering degree IIT, Delhi, Deveshwar hand by the government was at the helm of the national airline, Air India, as chairman and chief executive officer. The Government of India has also nominated him, the chairman of the board of directors of the company and the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He is also a member of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council.
Deveshwar is also the chairman of the hotel ITC Limited and Surya Nepal Private Limited and is director of the board of the International Travel House Limited. He has also been honoured with the Honorary Fellowship of the All India Management Association, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, the Meridien Hotelier of the Year Award and marketing of man year by A & M, the country Leader of the sale of the publication. Ernst & Young were also honoured Deveshwar Manager Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2001.
Mr. R Seshasayee, has taken over as vice president of the CII. An accountant by profession, he is the managing director of Ashok Leyland since 1998.
On the National Council of CII for over 15 years, Seshasayee has been chairman of several national committees of CII at the Eighth Plan, the economy, defence, agriculture and maritime transportation and international trade and the WTO. He was a member of the delegation of the Government of India on the Doha round of the WTO Ministerial Conference in the year 2001. He was also president of the Southern region past CII.
He was also the president of the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the leading edge of the representative body of the automotive industry in India. He is now the chairman of the Committee on International Trade in ACIS.
Seshasayee has on several professional committees such as the Accounting Standards Board and research committees of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Finance and Management Research and the Academy of Management Excellence. Recently, he returned as chairman of the Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology Tiruchirapalli (NITT).
He served as director of ICICI Bank, EID Parry India Ltd and Sundaram Asset Management Co. Ltd, it is also in contact with several charitable, cultural and social organizations. He was the recipient of Honour Award from the Rotary Club.
