Strong finish not too shabby for Harpeth Halls Gabby
It was going to take a whirlwind finish for Gabby Gioia.
But Gioia had plenty of wind for her strong finish as the wispy 5-7 Harpeth Hall trackster overcame Brentwood Academys Victoria Dunlap in the final race to win the DII Middle Region pentathlon by a scant 26 points.
Gioia finished with 3,296 points, while Dunlap was second with 3,270 in the event on the MBA track on a rainy Tuesday. The skies did clear before the end of competition.
Dunlap won the high jump at 5-6 and took command with an impressive first-place heave of 34 feet in the shot. Gioia had firsts in the 100 hurdles and long jump with a 17-2 leap, edging Dunlap by 1 1/2 inches.
Going into the 800, Dunlap held a substantial 223-point lead (2801-2578) over Gioia.

MBA, Harpeth Hall, Ensworth nab lacrosse titles
Montgomery Bell Academy and Harpeth Hall have collected some more hardware.
MBA (boys) and Harpeth Hall (girls) captured the Tennessee Lacrosse Association Division I state championships on Saturday.
MBA (15-3) upended two-time defending champ McCallie 9-7as senior attacker Jim Witherspoon scored four goals, and Chris Cahill added two more, giving the Big Red their fourth state title. Cahill was named prep All-American.
Witherspoon was named the tourney offensive MVP, while junior goalkeeper Carver Morgan was defensive MVP. The Big Red loses just six seniors and returns 12 juniors.

Injury shakes up CHS at Slamfest
Watching one of your leaders grimace in pain in the middle of the mat is never easy.
It also goes without saying trying to wrestle afterwards isnt much easier.
When Clarksville High heavyweight Enoch Hill was forced to retire in his match against Ooltewah with a separated elbow the Wildcats had to regroup and finish against the states No. 5-ranked team. It didnt bode well for the Wildcats but they did regroup in time to beat Ravenwood in the consolation match for a third-place finish at Slamfest Saturday at Clarksville High.
