Cusat Open all-India chess

The 19th Cusat Open all-India FIDE-rated chess tournament begins at the Cochin University’s School of Management Studies Hall here on Sunday.

Over 200 players, including International Masters P. Konguvel, Saptharshi Roy, K. Ratnakaran and R.R. Laxman, will figure in the week-long event organised jointly by the Cusat Chess Club and the Cochin University Union.

The tournament carries a total prize money of Rs.1.25 lakhs, including a winner’s purse of Rs.15,000. There are also prizes for best players in various age groups and other categories. Olympian, Shiny Wilson, will inaugurate the tournament and Arjuna Awardee, Wilson Cherian, will be the chief guest. The Cusat Registrar, A. Ramachandran, will preside over the opening ceremony.

Chess Tournament in CUSAT

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)-Chess Club, in collaboration with the University of Cochin European Union organize 17 Cusat international rating chess tournament at the School of Management Studies, Cusat, 24 June to June 30. Examinations postponed

KOCHI, JULY 24. The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) and the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit have postponed its examinations to be held on July 26 and 27 respectively in view of the holiday declared by the Government for educational institutions in the State. Cusat has postponed the LLB (first semester) supplementary examinations scheduled to be held on July 26 to July 29. The viva voce for the second semester of M.Phil. Physics to be held on July 26 has also been postponed.

Training programme on energy management

A two-week short-term training programme on emerging technologies in energy management with special emphasis on the recent advances in non-conventional energy sources began at the School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), here today. The programme titled `Energy 2004' is being organised by the Electrical Engineering Division, CUSAT, for professionals and teachers of engineering colleges. Inaugurating the programme, R.V.G. Menon, former director of ANERT, said that the availability of fossil fuel would decline in five to 10 years. KOCHI, JAN. 24 The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has launched a project for the conservation of estuaries, Cochin, in collaboration with public and private sector participation. The project was launched by Vice-Chancellor, N. Unnikrishnan, by Friday.
