Gaston police investigate string of break-ins
The Gaston police confirmed there have been a number of recent break-ins in the area and suggested residents take extra caution for security.
Chief Randy Griffin said a private garage, a residence and a storage bin were all broken into during July. He did not reveal the addresses of the crimes.
A suspect or suspects hit the storage facility on July 7, taking off with a number of televisions, DVD players and recorders as well as Nintendo games and equipment.

Mortgage applications fall in holiday week
The number of applications for mortgages at major U.S. banks dropped 3.9% on a seasonally adjusted basis last week compared to the prior week, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported Wednesday.

Mack Robinson College of Business at GSU will begin offering a Masters of Business Administration specialization in Hotel Real Estate. GSU said the degree is likely the first of its kind offered in an MBA curriculum in the nation.
The MBA degree including the Hotel Real Estate specialization will require less than 60 credit hours of coursework. Full-time students can expect to complete the degree in 18 to 24 months. Part-time students typically will earn the degree in three to five years.

ETS announces alterations to GRE testing format to take effect in fall
The Educational Testing Service is making multiple changes to the Graduate Record Examinations, a standardized test required for admission to many graduate schools. ETS recently announced that these changes will go into effect in September, after being scheduled to take effect in October of last year, according to an ETS press release.
We are introducing a number of changes into the context and the administrations of the test, as well as to the score scales, said Dawn Piacentino, the associate director in the GRE program at ETS.

Gearing up for the arrival of students in the fall, Maryland colleges and universities announced this week a flurry of high-level academic and administrative appointments.
The job of managing a new MBA program offered jointly by the University of Baltimores Merrick School of Business and Towson University will fall to Ron Desi, a former project manager at Baltimore-area high-technology companies and an instructor in the Loyola College MBA program.
