Harvard Business School unveiled an initiative that will conditionally guarantee college undergraduates a place in its MBA program. The initiative, which the school described as a first-of-its-kind deferred MBA admissions program, is called HBS 2+2, and its designed to reach out to qualified college students, especially those who may not typically consider business as a career path. HBS 2+2 will give undergraduates a guaranteed place in a future Harvard Business School MBA class, contingent upon their graduation from college and the successful completion of two years of approved work experience, the school said. Called 2+2, the initiative allows college students to lock in a spot in Harvards M.B.A. program by the end of their junior year. Before they start classes, accepted students must work for two years. The school is providing free career counseling and other resources to help students secure these short-term positions.
Other business schools, such as Carnegie Mellons Tepper School of Business and the University of Rochesters Simon Graduate School of Business, have adopted similar measures in recent years.
A National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduate edged out a fellow schoolmate and a Wharton undergraduate to snag top honours at the MAS-ESS essay writing competition.
Melvin Koh beat Leong Chee Kian (NUS) and See Kok Heng (Wharton) for the $5,000 cash prize.

Massachusetts Institute of Technologys Sloan business school ranked higher than Harvard Universitys business school in a survey published in Wednesdays Wall Street Journal.
The research, conducted by the WSJ and Harris Interactive, examined what recruiters think of the nations top M.B.A programs. The rankings measured how appealing the business schools were to the corporate recruiters who hire their M.B.A. graduates.
