Beginning this fall, a master of professional studies in engineering management degree is being offered at Penn State Harrisburg. The program combines business and management principles with engineering study for engineers in the workforce.
The intent is to help engineers do some fine-tuning and make them better managers, said Richard Young, director of MBA programs and a professor at Penn State Harrisburg.
The program is a cooperative effort between the School of Science, Engineering and Technology and the School of Business Administration. Students will take 15 credits in business and 18 credits in engineering.

University Park, Pa. -- A Penn State MBA student will have the chance to test his stock market smarts when he appears on CNBCs Fast Money at 8 p.m. today (June 1).
Thomas Aichele, who has completed half of the two-year MBA program in Penn States Smeal College of Business, is scheduled to appear via webcam for the shows Grade the Trade segment. Aichele will have 30 seconds to state what stocks he would buy and sell in a specific financial scenario, and will then be graded on his financial advice by the shows panelists.

Besides padding the pockets of owners and providing fans with affordable entertainment, the New York-Penn League exists to produce future major-leaguers.
The State College Spikes received their first look at the league's big-league goals last summer when they received current St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan on a rehabilitation assignment, and played against New York Mets reliever Joe Smith and Cincinnati Reds outfielder Josh Hamilton.
Smith was sent to Triple-A New Orleans in August after beginning his first full professional season in New York. He is due back in New York later this month.

COLLEGE PLANNING: Program to offer scholarships
The Penn State Smeal College of Business Executive MBA Program is offering two $25000 scholarships to members of the class of 2009 who are employees of nonprofit organizations.
To be eligible candidates must submit a 500-word essay describing how the Philadelphia-based Executive MBA Program will help further the work of their nonprofit organization or cause.
The submission deadline is March 30.

University Park, Pa. -– A Smeal College of Business MBA student is scheduled to appear on the CNBC program "Fast Money" on Friday (July 27) during the television show's "Grade the Trade" segment.
Second-year MBA student Jason Munson will have 30 seconds to explain what stocks he would buy and sell under a specific scenario described by the show's host, Dylan Ratigan. When he's finished, the show's panel of financial analysts will critique his stock advice and assign him a letter grade.

As more working adults enroll in online degree programs, universities are swooping in to lure students at the expense of the for-profit education companies that have offered degrees over the Internet for years.
Traditional bricks-and-mortar schools are seeing a burgeoning opportunity in online education as students keep looking for ways to complete degrees while juggling work and school.
Online degree programs have already started at well-known schools nationwide, such as the University of Maryland, the University of Florida and Penn State, especially as consumer interest remains strong and online degrees gain acceptance among prospective employers.

Southeastern Illinois College is going online in an attempt to reach more students.
Programs such as online courses, distance learning programs, student e-mail accounts and a planned online degree are all part of the college's plan to move beyond the traditional classroom.
Southeastern's first online course was Economics 121, which was offered in the fall of 1999. The course's instructor was located in Des Plaines, 350 miles north of the college's Harrisburg campus.

Survey finds MBA students most likely to cheat
When it comes to cheating in graduate school, a new study finds that MBA students are the champs.
A survey of 5,331 students at 32 graduate schools in the United States and Canada found an alarming amount of cheating across disciplines, but more among the nations future business leaders. Fifty-six percent of graduate business students admitted they had cheated at least once in the last year, compared with 47 percent of non-business students.
