Online education, distance learning, e-education and e-learning, are just some of the terms used to describe a revolution now occurring in the learning community. According to The Babson Survey Research Group, over 2,200 colleges and universities now offer online courses. Some think these new approaches are essential to reforming the education system, while others are skeptical of this rapidly changing education market.
The amount of online college applicants has increased sharply in the past few years and without decline anywhere in sight, according to The Sloan Consortium, an educational research group.
With recent improvements of past technical obstacles such as speedy Internet transmission of large files, PC and Macintosh compatibilities and better user-friendly computer interfacing, online learning has become a feasible alternative to an on campus college education.

To meet the needs of a growing population of students who may work full time, have family responsibilities at home and need education flexibility, Davidson County Community College is offering a new online degree in business administration.
"One of the college's goals is to create more online classes," said Matt Huntanar, department chair for business and computer technology. "Online programs create more options and more flexibility."
The online business administration program will be the second online degree offered in the DCCC Applied Technology Division. The first online degree program was the online computer information technology program.

Half of a group of prospective college students who said they would be interested in taking an online course in the next 12 months also said they would like to enroll in a completely online degree program, according to a recent survey conducted by the American InterContinental University Online.
The survey also showed that 32 percent of the respondents favored a degree program that was mostly online but included some campus-based courses. Ten percent said they wanted a program that was primarily on campus, the survey showed. Eight percent wanted half online; half on campus.
