If top business-school applicants need a break from GMAT prep and essay writing, they should browse the Web for inspirational quotes and clip art.
The admissions office at the University of Chicagos Graduate School of Business is requiring for the first time this year a PowerPoint presentation — or something like it. In four slides or less, the online instructions say, please provide readers with content that captures who you are.
Those readers, it turns out, are sort of bored with essays. The new requirement will give admissions officers a better sense of their applicants, says Rosemaria Martinelli, associate dean of admissions and financial aid. Plus, she says, it will make my job of reading a million applications much more enjoyable.

XLRI signs MoU with Chicago-based varsity
XLRI on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Loyola University of Chicago. The MoU envisages exchange of students and faculty between the two institutions. It will pave the way for joint research and a joint degree programme as well.
The two-year post graduate degree in business administration (human resources) will be awarded by the University of Chicago.
Fr N Casamir Raj, director of XLRI, told FE that a curriculum for the joint degree programme would be in place soon, and added that he was interested in the tie up as the Loyola School
Charles M. Harper, retired chairman and chief executive of ConAgra Foods, has given the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business one of the largest cash gifts in its history, the University announced today.
In recognition of the gift, the business school building on the Universitys campus in Chicagos Hyde Park neighborhood has been named the Charles M. Harper Center.
Harper, who received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1950, requested that the amount of his gift not be disclosed.

Erroneous Waitlist E-mails Accidentally Sent to Hundreds of MBA Applicants
On March 8, an employee in the McDonough School of Businesss MBA admissions office accidentally sent an e-mail to all full-time MBA applicants informing them that they had been waitlisted.
Over 300 of the hundreds of applicants who received the erroneous e-mail had already received an admissions decision. Of those, 256 had been accepted and 68 were rejected.
Within three hours of the original e-mail, the university sent another e-mail to the applicants to inform them of the error.
