Cracking the CAT or the Combined Admission Test is just not enough to get into the IIMs. Your Class X and XII marks matter more.
IIM-Bangalore has revealed the details of just what it takes to get into one of the country’s top B- schools.
Contrary to popular perception, CAT scores make up only one-fifth of an aspirant’s final score. Other criteria include the applicant’s X and XII results, which together account for almost 25 per cent of the final score.

MBA Programme (Session 2007-2009)

Eligibility: A Bachelors degree (10+2+3) in any discipline, B.Tech, B.Pharm, or equivalent with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate (45% marks or equivalent CGPA for candidates belonging to SC/ST or persons with disability category. For honours gradates the aggregate will include marks of both honours and pass papers. CAT scores are used for short-listing candidates who have to apply for admission to ISM separately. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the program.

Six students of MBA first semester and three students of MBA third semester of Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Gujarkhan campus, have bagged merit positions in Punjab Technical University examinations.
As per the merit list released by PTU, these exams were held in December 2006. Megha Jain of MBA first semester has topped the university with 90.25 % marks. Jaspreet Kaur bagged the second position with 89.12 %, and Chanpreet Kaur bagged the third position with 88.87 % marks.
Swati Mehta bagged the fifth position with 87.5% marks, Preeti Kalsi bagged the seventh position with 87.25 %
The TOEFL results comprise four different scores : a total score (0-300),
a separate score for Listening section (0-30),
a separate score for Structure/Writing section (0-30) and
a separate score for Reading section (0-30).
The total score is reported on a scale from 0 to 300.
Note that your Essay score will individually be rated (0-6). However the essay score is incorporated into the Structure/Writing scaled score with the rating of essay constituting approximately one half of the Structure/Writing scaled score. With the quota row not completely over, IIM Calcutta has quietly followed IIM Ahmedabad in 2007 in announcing their minimum acceptable cutoff scores in the CAT bulletin to maintain minimum standards. The cutoff applied even to reserved categories, says the bulletin.
The IIM Calcutta notification in the CAT 2007 bulletin reads, A candidate (including a reserved category candidate) to be shortlisted for GD and PI for admission to post-graduate programmes should obtain a minimum of 20%, 20% and 10% in quantitative, logic and data interpretation and verbal sections respectively.
