Mobil Medics for India Win Global Social Venture Competition in New York
An international team bringing mobile and affordable health care to rural India won the $25,000 first prize at the 7th annual Global Social Venture Competition at Columbia Business School in New York on April 7.
Mobile Medics is a traveling healthcare service that would provide private sector, high quality, and affordable medical care through mobile clinics to paying villagers in India. The team is comprised of Columbia MBA students and students from the Indian school BITS Pilani.
The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC), which was founded by Berkeley MBA students in 1999/2000, has grown into a global partnership between the University of California, Berkeleys Haas School of Business, Columbia Business School in New York, and London Business School. In 2005, Indian School of Business became the first school in Asia to run the Global Social Venture Competition. More than one-third of the total 113 business plan submissions this year came from India, and two were represented among the finalists.

UW venture capitalist team wins national competition
It looks as if the University of Washington may have some budding venture capitalists walking the halls.
For the second time in the past three years, a team from the UWs MBA program won the national Venture Capital Investment Competition.
People are pretty excited around here today, considering who we beat, UW business school spokeswoman Nancy Gardner said.
Other schools that participated included MIT, Harvard and Michigan. The competition, hosted by the University of North Carolina allows students to emulate the job of venture capitalists. As part of the competition, the teams evaluate a pitch from
Bharathidasan students at the Institute of Management, Tiruchi, participation in a social entrepreneurship in Seattle early next year.

A joint venture in India has been established recently to the implementation of a city gas project in Calcutta, India. The project partners from business and their respective shareholdings contain GAIL (INDIA - 22.5%) and INDIAN OIL CORP. (IOC - 22.5%).
