Subra Suresh, an IIT Chennai alumnus, has been appointed dean of the prestigious engineering school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Currently the Ford Professor of Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Suresh will succeed Institute Professor Thomas Magnanti as the next dean of the School of Engineering July 23.
An MIT announcement Thursday noted that its School of Engineering has long held a unique national and international position of pre-eminence in both education and research.

MITs Sloan tops Harvard among recuiters
Massachusetts Institute of Technologys Sloan business school ranked higher than Harvard Universitys business school in a survey published in Wednesdays Wall Street Journal.
The research, conducted by the WSJ and Harris Interactive, examined what recruiters think of the nations top M.B.A programs. The rankings measured how appealing the business schools were to the corporate recruiters who hire their M.B.A. graduates.
MITs Sloan ranked tenth while Harvard was placed at 14.
Recruiters surveyed said Harvards shortcomings include an arrogant culture and graduates excessive salary demands.

UB names lawyer and top banking executive as dean and leader of its School of Business
Merrill Jay Forgotson, a lawyer and noted banking executive in Connecticut, is the new dean of the University of Bridgeports School of Business.
The appointment was announced by UBs President, Neil Albert Salonen, who said the new dean will connect with the business community, affirming UBs position as one of the leading business schools in the state.
Forgotson succeeds Dr. Glenn Basset, a professor and former dean and General Electric executive, who guided the school through the process of re-accreditation by the Association of College Business Schools
UNC names associate dean of MBA program
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday appointed David Hofmann as the next associate dean for the MBA program at the universitys Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Morgan, currently a professor of organizational behavior and strategy at the UNC school, will replace Valarie Zeithaml effective July 1.
Zeithaml served as senior associate dean for academic affairs and marketing area chair at Kenan-Flagler before serving as the head of the MBA program for four years.
