UNC plans to compete in online education

North Carolina higher education is moving aggressively online. Thats inevitable, highly advantageous for some students and it may benefit taxpayers. Projections call for as many as 80,000 more students on the states 16 campuses by the end of the decade. Thats a huge potential expense in terms of brick and mortar alone. Online degree programs offer one part of a solution. Already 130 programs are available online and 24,000 students participate. Some traditionalists worry that an online university is no university at all if the shared learning environment of a campus is lost. But campuses are not about to be replaced; rather, they will be supplemented. Proponents argue that online courses may bring students and professors closer. More : news-record.com |
