The definition of residency as it pertains to elected office on boards of education, community college boards of trustees, the state board of education, and the boards for the states three largest universities — Wayne State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University — would be clarified under legislation introduced by Rep. Robert Dean (D-Grand Rapids) and Rep. Steve Tobocman (D-Detroit) in recent weeks.
House Bill (HB) 4739 and HB 4740 have been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where they awaiting a hearing.
The bills would define the residence of a local school board member or member of a community college board of trustees as a place at which a person habitually sleeps, keeps his or her personal effects, and has a regular place of lodging. In addition, according to the language in the bills, if a person has more than one residence, or if a spouse has a residence separate from that of the other spouse, the place at which the person resides the greater part of the time is their official residence.

Bangalore, Mar 25 (PTI) The placement committee chief of Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, which faced flak from students after their employment offers were made public, has left office citing expiry of his term.

Playing down a possible face-off with the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), the HRD on Wednesday clarified that it would not interfere in the selection of directors at the top business schools.
The practice of selecting directors through search-cum-selection committees has not been discontinued, the ministry said in a statement.
The clarification followed a newspaper advertisement placed by the ministry inviting applications for the post of director at three IIMs.

MBA students focus on education finances
MBA students at the University of California, Berkeleys Haas School of Business will host the Education Leadership Case Competition, the first of its kind at a business school in the United States, on Thursday and Friday, March 1-2. The competition will focus on a new financial plan for the Oakland Unified School District, which has been in state receivership since 2003 due to financial troubles.

Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, has decided to retain its existing fee structure. It offers two two- year management courses and charges annual fee of Rs1.5 lakh per student. It offers merit-based and need-based scholarships worth Rs20 lakh every year. Father Casimir Raj, Director of XLRI, clarified that the fees now charged are not sufficient to meet expenses. The institute is covering the shortfall with income from other activities like management training programmes and consultancy services.
Bangalore: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Development Kapil Sibal ocean said Thursday the development of human resources should not be the ministry of the question of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore to the opening a campus in Singapore.
