Beginning this fall, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (FHCHS) will deliver its expertise in sonography education to students around the world by offering its Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography completely online. Classes begin with the fall 2007 trimester.
Much like the other online degrees in nursing and radiologic sciences offered by the College, sonography represents a growing field with an increasing demand for highly-educated professionals, said Dr. Don Williams, senior vice president for academic administration. The online delivery of the degree increases the access of students from around the world to Florida Hospital Colleges expert faculty and staff. The students benefit by increasing their knowledge base in sonography and raising the level of their professionalism.

Students will be able to complete the requirements to earn their Bachelors degree in as little as 24 months.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. As the population grows and ages, there will be an increased demand for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic technology. Sonographic technology is expected to evolve rapidly and to spawn many new sonography procedures, such as 3-D- and 4-D-sonography for use in obstetric and cardiac diagnosis.

Southeastern Illinois College is going online in an attempt to reach more students.
Programs such as online courses, distance learning programs, student e-mail accounts and a planned online degree are all part of the college's plan to move beyond the traditional classroom.
Southeastern's first online course was Economics 121, which was offered in the fall of 1999. The course's instructor was located in Des Plaines, 350 miles north of the college's Harrisburg campus.
