Technical education in Gujarat is being overhauled. A group from six colleges in Ahmedabad is being coached to achieve quality teaching standards with help from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
The IIM-A faculty is training more than 50 per cent of the teaching staff of LD Engineering College and five other network colleges. These training sessions are giving our faculty the soft skills they need while teaching. Creative techniques, new equipment and refinement of presentation skills have modernised our teaching methods, said professor R K Gajjar, the co-ordinator of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), under which the training is being conducted.
The TEQIP is a project run by the Government of India, funded by the World Bank, from which LD Engineering College has received a grant of Rs 30 crore. The project started in December 2004 and will end in December 2007. LD Engineering College is the leading college of Gujarat, which has three engineering and two polytechnic colleges as its network colleges. Under this programme, we are trying to achieve academic excellence, network development and service to the community.
