Two-Year Horticulture Degree to be offered in Boothbay Region

Beginning this summer, courses in horticulture as well as a two-year, Associate in Applied Science degree in Horticulture will be offered in the Boothbay Region. The announcement was made this week by the Coastal College Development Board (CCDB), a group of volunteers trying to bring more college related opportunities to the Boothbay Region..

The horticulture courses and two-year program are made possible by a unique collaboration among the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (CMBG) in Boothbay where the courses will be offered, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) which offers the degree program and other horticultural related certificate programs, and Central Maine Community College, which will offer the required non-major courses for the horticulture degree.

HRT 223, Introduction to Floral Design offered by SMCC for 3 credits, will begin at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on Tuesdays from June 19 through August 21 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., taught by Bob and Kitty Boyd of Boothbay Region Greenhouses. This fun, 45-contact hour lecture and lab course is open to all high school graduates as well as junior and senior high school students, and will cover such topics as elements of design, design styles, corsage and body flowers, general flower shop practices, holiday preparedness and the like. It is not necessary to be a matriculated student in the Horticulture Degree Program to enroll in this course. Contact Robert A. UA to offer executive MBA in Huntsville

The University of Alabama announced plans to offer an executive MBA degree in Huntsville starting in July 2008. The degree will be offered through a cooperative agreement with the University of Alabama in Huntsville on the Huntsville campus, the school said Monday. In the fall 2007 semester, the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at GSU will begin offering a Masters of Business Administration specialization in Hotel Real Estate. Iowa Central Community College has teamed up with Barker Educational Services Team to help provide a variety of two-year degrees for non-traditional students. Currently the distance education program provides four accelerated programs for students to take on the Internet. Computer networking technology, business, criminal justice and an associate of arts degree are all available by taking courses online. Virginia Tech Offers Online Master’s Degree in Agriculture
