Texas Christian U. MBA students learning the old-fashioned way
Nearly two dozen MBA students are enrolled in a new experiential learning course at Texas Christian Universitys Neeley School of Business that has them spending more time outside the classroom than in.
This semester, the school launched Neeley & Associates Consultants. Its really a class, but the course work includes service in a consulting project for an outside company or nonprofit group. There are some classroom sessions, but those mostly address topics to help the students with their work.
You need to get them out of the classroom, said Bill Cron, an associate dean at the business school. They need to gain experience and gain insight to dealing with complex, messy problems. This is a great opportunity for companies to identify talent.

Students from two San Antonio universities and one Texas State University student in San Marcos are among this year's 15 scholarship winners from the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
The hall of fame foundation announced the winners Tuesday, saying each will receive $10,000 scholarships to apply toward their work on master's degrees in business administration. The winners are Stuart Bankey of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Gina Culotta at St. Mary's University and Maggie Lajaunie at Texas State University.

London's tony Financial Times announced on Monday (Oct. 22) the results of its annual survey of the effectiveness of executive MBA programs.
The University of Texas at Dallas fared pretty darn well, taking first place among Texas-based institutions and tying with Georgetown University for 10th place nationwide.
150 business schools worldwide were considered for the survey, which canvassed alumni from the various schools on the subjects of career progress, school diversity, international coursework and faculty research. UTD scored highly in both the alumni career program and faculty research categories.

The UT Dallas program also tied with Georgetown University for No. 35 worldwide.
In addition, the survey released Monday ranked the research productivity of the UT Dallas School of Managements faculty among the top 21 business schools worldwide.
