IMDs start up competition
International Institute of Management Development (IMD) Switzerland, has chosen 22 start-up companies to work with its MBA and Executive MBA programmes in 2007.
These companies are the winners of the 9th annual IMD Start-Up Competition 2007. The IMD Start-Up competition provides an opportunity for early-stage companies to benefit from the support and insights of a team of experienced participants from two of IMDs flagship programmes, the MBA and the Executive MBA.
The objectives of the collaboration between entrepreneurs and managers/participants are to provide hands-on learning experience in entrepreneurship and new ventures for the IMD MBA and EMBA classes and also provide input and support to early stage companies, to improve their chances of funding and success.

Most of us get back into gear slowly after the holidays, but those involved in the John Molson School of Businesss annual International MBA Case Competition have to hit the ground running.

How the IIMs woke up to competition
One of the primary lessons that the Indian Institutes of Management teach their students is how to face competition. But when competition reached their own backyards, Indias premier management schools were slow in putting those theories into practice.
Stung by the spectacular success of the Indian School of Business, which launched its full-time management programme for experienced executives five years ago, IIMs have finally struck back. Admits an IIM faculty member: The unmatched success of our post-graduate course for freshers made us complacent. But management theories also teach you how to recover lost ground.

HYDERABAD: ICFAI Business School representatives M.V.R. Raja Satish and Rallapalli Raghuram won first prize at the NTPC ‘Electron Quiz’ Southern Regional Final competition held in the city on Monday.
Over 42 teams from various engineering and management colleges across the twin cities took part in the quiz competition and top three teams from the competition would take part in the national finals to be held at New Delhi, said a press release.
On the occasion, NTPC General Manager (Commercial) presented cash awards of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 6,000 respectively to the top three winners.

The California Institute of Technology has been selected as the regional site in the ninth annual Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.
The Siemens Competition is one of the premier science and mathematics, research-based competitions in the nation for high-school students. The competition, renowned for its rigorous academic and judging standards, and for its emphasis on authentic scientific research, was established by the Siemens Foundation in partnership with the College Board in 1999.
High-school students may compete individually or in teams to conduct research projects in science, mathematics, engineering, technology, or a combination of these disciplines.

UW venture capitalist team wins national competition
It looks as if the University of Washington may have some budding venture capitalists walking the halls.
For the second time in the past three years, a team from the UWs MBA program won the national Venture Capital Investment Competition.
People are pretty excited around here today, considering who we beat, UW business school spokeswoman Nancy Gardner said.
