ICFAI rural MBA finds bevy of recruiters

ICFAI rural MBA finds bevy of recruiters

While IIM students may be attracting Rs 1-crore salary packages, ICFAI National College, that offers business management programmes for the masses, is churning out foot soldiers for financial services and retail companies who are looking at hiring B-school grads for their tier-II and rural operations.

ICFAI National College, with 155 centres in towns like Warangal and Nasik, is emerging as a key talent resource for BFSI and retail companies who are scouting for talent in small towns. These companies want local talent pool in large numbers, who can speak the native language. As these are all entry-level posts, it is not feasible for these companies to shell out large sums for recruiting students from top B-schools of the country. Besides, most B-school graduates would not like rural postings, says R Prasad, director of the Icfai National College.

The college has 7,000 students on roll of which over 6,200 are eligible for placement. Placement salaries are in the region of Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Almost 40% of the recruitment is over. This year, we are expecting 500 companies against 256 companies last year, he adds. While corporates do not offer big-ticket salaries to Icfai National College students, they hire in large numbers. For instance, ICICI recruited over 300 students from the institute last year.
