$1 Million from Wharton Alumnus John Patience for Fellowship

Thus, last week, he gave his alma mater, Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, a $ 10 million gift to the John C. Whitehead. Students recall his classes as torture sessions, and their hearts palpitated as he picked them for grilling on marketing fundamentals. Some planned their campus routes to avoid encountering him, because they feared being caught unprepared. Yet many are grateful to him for helping to shape them into successful businessmen or academic scholars. On June 25, Mahasukhrai N. Vora, former professor of marketing at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (IIM-A), passed away at age 73. A Wharton alumnus, Vora -- or Vorasaab as some referred to him -- is credited as the pioneer of the case study approach in The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has announced the renewal of its association with the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad, India for five more years. ISB is a one-of-a-kind institution created in June 2001 with support from 50 of the worlds top corporations and two U.S.-based business schools - Wharton and Northwestern Universitys Kellogg Graduate School of Management. The initial success of this association between Wharton and ISB prompted its renewal as well as the launch of an ISB-Wharton Joint Research Initiative that will encourage joint research between Wharton and ISB faculty, including curriculum development. More : .channelnewsasia.com Carnegie Mellon Universitys Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has received a $50,000 graduate fellowship from the Mao Yisheng Scientific and Technical Education Fund to honor the memory and technical excellence of Chinas pioneering bridge builder, Mao Yisheng. Mao, who came to Pittsburgh to study steelmaking and bridge building, earned Carnegie Mellons first Ph.D. in 1919. The establishment of this fellowship was celebrated during a reception June 6, which was attended by Maos daughter, Madame Mao Yulin. This fellowship is a wonderful way to assist future generations of engineering innovators to study at Carnegie Mellon and to contribute to its tradition Swoosh, there it is: Knight giving $105 million to Stanford Nike Chairman Phil Knight is donating $105 million to Stanford University, all but $5 million of which will be used to help build a new campus for the business school. The eight-building, $275 million project will be named the Knight Management Center -- but were wondering if anyone suggested simply branding the buildings with a huge Nike swoosh. Construction is expected to begin in 2008, although Stanford is still raising the rest of the money needed for the project. On successful completion of the Fellowship, the Fellow may be considered for an appropriate faculty position Developer Arrillaga gives Stanford $100M A prominent Silicon Valley real estate developer has given $100 million to Stanford University. John Arrillaga, a longtime benefactor of the school, played basketball there nearly 50 years ago. In the past, Arrillaga made a $22 million gift for the Arrillaga Family Sports Center, which now contains administrative offices, rooms for coaches, sports medicine, and conferences. In addition, an alumni center, for which he donated $37 million, is named for his late wife Fran. According to reports, the latest gift will be used for various programs within the university, and no decision has been made yet Goldman Sachs executive Scott Mead discovered his secretary, Joyti De-Laurey, had stolen money from his bank account only when he sat down late one night to make a £1m donation to Harvard Business School.
