Hong Kong team wins WFU elevator competition
Students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology took top honors in Wake Forest University’s annual MBA Elevator Competition for their plan for a device that distinguishes between acute bacterial or viral infections.
The Hong Kong team is the first international competitor to enter the seven-year-old event, during which budding entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to judges in a two-minute elevator ride meant to simulate the need to be clear and concise when dealing with investors.
A team from Wake Forest University also made the finals with its pitch for AudioFusion, which has a technology to retrain the brain to tune out tinnitus through a combination of sound therapy and directive counseling. Other finalists were from Harvard University and the University of Georgia.

UW venture capitalist team wins national competition
It looks as if the University of Washington may have some budding venture capitalists walking the halls.
For the second time in the past three years, a team from the UWs MBA program won the national Venture Capital Investment Competition.
People are pretty excited around here today, considering who we beat, UW business school spokeswoman Nancy Gardner said.

ICICI Bank has come under regulatory glare in Hong Kong for selling products without a proper licence. As part of an enquiry, the head of the banks international operations, Bhargav Dasgupta, was asked to discontinue an executive MBA programme abroad and rush to Hong Kong. The branch has about 30 employees.
The branch offers retail and corporate banking services, trade finance, remittances, investment advisory services, real estate opportunities, portfolio management services and joint advisory services.

First class graduates Mercer MBA program in McDonough
Jason Hayes of McDonough is packing up to leave for a 10-day trip to Hong Kong on Saturday.
The trip is a part of his school work, he said, though he marched on May 20 with other would-be graduates at commencement ceremonies for Mercer Universitys Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics.
Hayes is a member of a class that was recognized as the first to graduate with an Executive Masters in Business Administration degree from Mercers regional academic center in McDonough.

HYDERABAD: ICFAI Business School representatives M.V.R. Raja Satish and Rallapalli Raghuram won first prize at the NTPC ‘Electron Quiz’ Southern Regional Final competition held in the city on Monday.
Over 42 teams from various engineering and management colleges across the twin cities took part in the quiz competition and top three teams from the competition would take part in the national finals to be held at New Delhi, said a press release.
On the occasion, NTPC General Manager (Commercial) presented cash awards of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 6,000 respectively to the top three winners.

Andrew Lee named restaurant manager
Andrew Lee has been named manager of Hong Kong Harbor View Seafood Restaurant at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.
Lee was born in Taiwan, where he graduated from the Taipei College of Journalism with a degree in cinematography. A noted entertainer in his native country, he moved to the United States to study at Hawaii Pacific University, where he earned a master of science degree in information systems and an MBA in hotel management.

Bio-Diesel Fuel wins Intel Capital Sponsored Event
An alternative energy company called Aurora BioFuels has won the $25,000 first prize at the eighth annual UC Berkeley Business Plan Competition at the University of California, Berkeleys Haas School of Business.
Aurora BioFuels presented a plan showing how to create bio-diesel fuel with yields 125 times higher than existing bio-diesel conversion technologies, and at half the cost.
The company also won the Peoples Choice Award of $5,000 for garnering the most votes from the audience at the final awards ceremony on April 27.

Philip Kwok, Hong Kong businessman and MIT alumnus, is to receive an honorary degree from the Sloan school at MIT in recognition of his work in setting up the Chinese Management Education Programme between the Sloan school and four leading Chinese universities. The scheme celebrates its tenth anniversary this weekend at Fudan University in Shanghai, one of the four partner schools.
